RESCUED.....and Dancing for Joy

* * * * *

Two sites that we visit regularly is

Humane Society of United States

(they raid puppy mills and other places that
treat animals inhumanely - really cool teams of incredible people)
and the other site and blog is

A Place to Bark Rescue

Together - and with the help of many people and
always with the aid of donations, they
raided and then saved over 200 animals.

Many dogs so happy that regardless of their condition,
there were kisses, licks, wagging tails and....
this Babe! What a Dancer!

Watch her short little video and I guaranty
you'll smile WITH HER -
she's so happy - you will be too...

Opinion

* * * * *

Lia: So-o-o-o-...what did you think of that Ernie guy?

Zoe: W h a t ? Are You Kidding Me?

Lia: No. Why would I kid? He's ok...he likes to run...he's strong....he likes to chase and run...

Zoe: Like a PUPPY?

Lia: Ya...an energetic puppy.

Zoe: Ya...who's fierce - and - I think he's strong enough to get his way...any time he wants.

Lia: Ya - but still playful.

Zoe: Playful like bull: I flipped over to be nice and submissive and he lifted my head with his whole mouth...

Lia: Ya, I noticed after awhile you were in Mommy's arms and then you finally jumped over the fence to the Quiet Zone...do you think he'll come back?

Zoe: All I want is a couple hours notice if he does. I already have my travel bag half packed so just let me know....this is ridiculous....I don't know why I put up with this....I have an upset stomach and I'm gonna go eat some grass....geez, sometimes humans don't know what they're doing or what they want...I can't believe she would put me through such nonsence.....
Good Grief!

Lia: Are you through? Want to go stretch out on the bed with me? You might feel better.

Zoe: The only way another dog is getting in here is if he/she is like....well...you.

Lia: ...huzzah!

I'm just sayin'

* * * * *

Lia: So, can I ask you sumthin?

Zoe: Sure.

Lia: Do you always understand Mommy?

Zoe: Heck no. We're not human - we don't speak that language. Why?

Lia: I dunno. I get alot of things she says when she talks TO us. Good Girl. Come. Sit. Do you want a cookie? I get all that...

Zoe: Sure - repeated mantras; you learned it with treats, you Pavlov's dog! So what's the problem?

Lia: Well - she says things like "you have the most beautiful face in the world"...or..."Lia, get your butt back here so I can wipe those paws"..body parts....I understand those...

Zoe: Aaannnnd????
Lia: So I'm a little frustrated that I don't know where other body parts are.

Zoe: WHAT THE HECK are you TALKING about????

Lia: Y'know...things like "Where's your knee?"

Zoe: That's not what she said, Whale Fat.

Lia: Oh, smarty pants? What'd she say?

Zoe: She said, "Where's Ernie?"

Lia: Who's Ernie???

Zoe: I don't have a clue.

Thanks Mother Earth

There are dogs all over the world
that celebrate EARTH DAY
one way.

They appreciate the earth beneath them
and they roll on it.
See Lia and Zoe's fotos to the left .
Upside Down.

Maybe we too should get outside and lie upside down
to celebrate Earth Day.

New Movie Promotes Adoption

* * * * *

The Back Up Plan

JLo is back in a movie that promotes adoption for dogs and artificial insemination for cougars. After a baby-making hiatus in real-life, Jennifer Lopez returns to the screen this month in a rom-com about baby-making entitled The Back-up Plan. So why do we care at The Bark? Because Lopez plays Zoe, the owner of Hudson Mutts, a Greenwich Village pet boutique that sets a good standard by emphasizing adoption and eco-friendly pet care. It also helps that Hudson Mutts was inspired by an adorable, paralyzed Boston Terrier named Nuts (played by a trio of canine actors, who are real-life rescue dogs). We haven’t seen the movie, which opens on April 23, but we’re excited about efforts to promote adoption (with the film’s release) this weekend.

Shooting in Macro...Reflections

* * * * *
The Mommy:

I have only a little idea what I'm doing with a P&S digital camera.
But I do know in Macro, you can get some really cool close up pictures
And if you look closely at Lia's eye,
So long as you're not distracted by the corner weep-goop,
you can see my reflection holding a camera.

(click on image for explosive view)

Oh, this didn't impress you?
Lia thought it was cool.
And she got a cookie for being so still.
So there.

Dog Art on Mondays ~

* * * * *
Lia: WHAT is THAT?

Zoe: Uhhhh....a sort of...costume.

Lia: WHAT is it supposed to BE?

Zoe: The Starship Enterprise. Just stop asking; we'll see something better tomorrow.

Lia: No, wait...

Zoe: No, Lia, really....unless you're as waaaay old as Mommy and are still a 'trekie' from the 60's, you'll NEVER understand this....just let it go.

Lia: Is this about that fat guy on TV that sells cheap hotel rates and Mommy makes that swooning sound?

Zoe: One in the same.

Cookies for Our Cuties

Doggie DIY: Martha Stewart’s Paw-Print Treats

Pups will beg for more of these wholesome treats!

Ingredients
Makes about 2 dozen

* 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for surface
* 1/2 cup wheat germ
* 1/2 cup brewer's yeast
* 2 teaspoons salt (this can/should be eliminated)
* 3 tablespoons canola oil
* 1 1/2 cups homemade or store-bought low-sodium chicken stock

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment. Combine flour, wheat germ, brewer's yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Place canola oil in a large bowl. Add flour mixture to oil in 3 additions, alternating with 1 cup stock; mix until combined.

2. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 2 minutes (dough will be sticky). Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out rounds using a 2-inch fluted cutter (bakedeco.com). Transfer to baking sheets. Make an indentation toward the bottom of 1 circle using your thumb, then press dough to make an arch of 4 small circles on top of the thumbprint using the tip of your pinky. Repeat with remaining rounds. Freeze for 15 minutes. Bake for 20 minutes, rotating sheets and lightly brushing with remaining 1/2 cup chicken stock halfway through. Turn oven off, and let stand in oven for 40 minutes.

Helpful Hint
Dog treats can be stored at room temperature for up to 1 month.

Oooo...Look at the Pretty Boys...

* * * * *

Zoe: LIA! Where did these guys come from?

Lia: The Belleville Easter Parade. I'm gonna keep them to play with.

Zoe: No you're not. They're all dressed up for the holiday - you'll need to take them back and put them in line for their turn in the parade.

Lia: I can't; my bike has a flat tire and I can't pull the wagon.

Zoe: Then I suggest you Mapquest your walking route and you better get going if you're gonna make it on time for Sunday.

Lia: HA HA - APRIL FOOLS JOKE ON YOOOOOU: THIS WAS ALL JUST A DREAM I HAD.

Easter Bunny Ears

* * * * *

Lia: So...when are we gonna pick out our Easter costumes?

Zoe: You're a hard-boiled egg! We are NOT wearing costumes. It's bad enough you make us do that on Halloween and I have to wear that stupid plaid taffeta dress at Christmas.

Lia: Well! Aren't YOU in a mood! I think it would be fun to walk around with Bunny Ears.

Zoe: You would. Mommy promised she'd find something tasteful and not so kiddie-like.

Lia: Like this foto?

Zoe: Precisely. By Amanda Jones Photography and the pup is Zueke.

Lia: With FLOWERS around her neck? That's stupid. There's no where to hook a leash to go for a walk.

Zoe: (...i wish she was a bunny rabbit....i wish she was a bunny rabbit....i wish.......)
