love, art and poetry for Patrick

* * * * *
Artists, Writers, Poets, Photographers,
people with hearts and consciousness worldwide
are showing support for one little pup who suffered
starvation, neglect and obuse - atrocities by a horrible human.

We love this woman's work and are thrilled to share ~

hero heart

patrick you are an inspiration,
you touch the hearts of people
in every nation
you teach us that strength
and character matter
in spite of a life that left you so shattered
we are cheering you on,
every step of the way
as you work to grow stronger

The Patrick Miracle

* * * * *
We are in love with Patrick and have supported
his recovery watching his progress every day.

We won't post any pictures here about how Patrick was found after a month of starvation in a garbage chute.  If you want to see his story, see it on Facebook or Google The Patrick Miracle.

Patrick makes us love-gushy and gives us a sense of wonder about the will of these incredible creatures.

Smooches on your head, Little One.

Dog Art Today tribute to Elizabeth Taylor

* * * * *

Elizabeth Taylor and Dacshund Puppy, 1952 via lovetripper

"Elizabeth Taylor's life was grand, tumultuous, global, tragic, glamorous, epic, and generous.  And she always brought her dogs along.   I loved that about her.  Rest in peace, Miss Taylor."

I like big MUTTS and I cannot lie

* * * * *

I like big MUTTS and I can not lie
You other mothers can't deny
That when a Newfoundland-Collie-Corgi mix
Does adorable doggie tricks
You fall in love
With a small mixed breed
He'll love you, guaranteed.

I gotta Terrier-Affenpinscher
And those brown eyes are the clincher
I know that dog is flea-ful
But that Chow Chow mix
Make me so gleeful

Ooh, Yorkie-Borzoi
You wanna be my new toy?
Pug mixed wit a Basset Hound
I'll take you from dat nasty pound
Doggy got home.

So ladies (yeah), Ladies (yeah)
Wanna pat my mutt named Sadie? (yeah)
Then grab a leash
You're shelter bound
Pick a lonely dog from the pound
Doggy got home

Does Your Dog Need an Iphone?

* * * * *

Even the most devoted of dog owners might question the need to purchase the latest and greatest media player for their four-legged friend, but music created specifically for canine listeners is gaining in popularity.

While it’s true that dogs have much more sensitive hearing than humans, dog owners don’t always give much thought to the sounds their pets are exposed to and how their behavior might be affected by them.

Some experts say that the right music can alleviate anxiety in dogs and help with problems like separation anxiety, excessive barking, and hyperactivity. Many owners leave radios and televisions on for their pets while they’re away, but much of the music produced for dogs includes specific frequencies designed to calm and soothe them. Most of the music is instrumental, and some choices include nature sounds and even “heartbeat music therapy” which is based on the premise that heartbeat rhythm has a natural calming effect.

Most dog owners experience behavior issues at one time or another, and canine music might be an easy alternative worth trying. A number of CDs that have music for dogs are available at retailers such as Amazon.com, and some can be downloaded from iTunes.

Even if you’re not ready to buy your canine buddy his own iPod, starting a music collection for him might be something to consider. Here are a few links to get you started:

Awesome Human-Dog Team

Captain Jim Boggeri,
a Type I advanced FEMA certified canine search specialist
and his partner, Reno

Please join our own Dr. Marty Becker and Gina Spadafori on Wednesday evening, March 16, at 9 PM Eastern Time, when they interview fire captain and search dog handler Jim Boggeri from the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, which right now has six dog/human teams searching for survivors in Japan. He’ll be bringing listeners up to date on what’s happening with the teams, and sharing his experiences as a search dog handler.

Boggeri is a captain with the Marin County Fire Department in the San Francisco Bay Area, a Type I advanced FEMA certified canine search specialist and a member of FEMA ASAR Task Force 4.
He joined forces with Recon, a yellow Lab, in 2001. Since then, they have responded to numerous disasters, including Hurricanes Rita and Katrina in 2005 as well as Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008. Jim recently added a second canine to the team, another yellow Lab named Nino, with whom he is currently working toward certification.

Our friends at PetHobbyist.com (now ConnectedByPets.com) have offered their Thirteenth Annual Chat Month venue to host the 30-minute radio interview, which will be streamed over the Animal Wise Radio Network.

If you’d like to ask Jim questions during the interview, which he will be able to respond to on the air, join other listeners in the Auditorum chat room.
You can find more information on listening, including how to tune in on your mobile device, here.

daycare facilities to pick up their babies...

She's so beauuuuuutifullll

* * * * *

Lia:  Wow...she's glamorous!

Zoe:  It's made up.  She's not real.

Lia:  Yes she is; she's a real dog with red hair like Mommy.

Zoe:  It's a wig; it's not her hair.  It's all fake.

Lia:  Fine.  Then I'm gonna ask for a fake pearl necklace for Christmas so I can look like this.

Zoe:  "Dear Barnum And Bailey: I have a dog for you the next time you're in town".....

Shirley - just another hero dog....

* * * * *

Shirley saves her owner's life....every day ~

Amazing dog smells diabetic emergencies
Shirley the labrador attentively watches her seven-year-old owner knowing that she could be minutes away from slipping into a coma.

Rebecca Farrar has an aggressive form of type one diabetes, meaning a hypoglycaemic attack could send her into a coma.The seven-year-old cannot tell when her blood sugar levels are becoming too high or low, meaning she has to rely on Shirley and her extraordinary sense of smell.
When the dog notices a change in Rebecca’s levels she continuously licks her owner as a warning. If Shirley still gets no response she is trained to go and fetch the medical testing kit in the classroom at Harpole Primary School in Northamptonshire.
Rebecca’s mother, Claire, said: “Shirley will sense Rebecca’s blood sugar levels going low during the night and if that’s the case, Shirley will try her hardest to wake Rebecca up by licking her legs, licking her feet.
“If Shirley can’t wake her up during the night she comes into my bedroom and gets me up. It’s like Lassie.”
Shirley was trained for over a year by charity Medical Detection Dogs.
Claire Guest from Medical Detection Dogs said: “We taught the dogs to be alert to low blood sugar odour and once the dog learns that we teach them to distinguish normal from low and then it’s easy from then on.
“The dog understands that whenever they smell that smell, get help.
