Mister

"Last week my husband came home from visiting our cousin's with an iPhone photo of the puppy their neighbors had just rescued. His name is Mister. He's an adorable ten week old pit mix, and he's pure white – except for a handful of black spots on his nose. I HAD to take his photo. Of course, Mister's cuteness alone was all I needed to see to get me over there with my camera, but he also presents a challenge I felt I had to take on – he's deaf, which made him even more precious to me. Since puppies don't yet have sit and stay commands mastered, I rely heavily on noise when I photograph them - squeaky toys, krinkling water bottles, and my voice. None of those things would work on Mister. Oh, and he had just come from puppy kindergarten, so he was all treated out - no food motivating either. Basically I had nothing. None of my trusted aides would help with Mister, well, except for one - my husband. With his help and A TON of patience, here's what I got of this special little guy who doesn't let his inabilty to hear hold him back"

Lia: Someone that knows Mommy has a Mommy. Mommy's friend met her mom's neighbor cuz the neighbor got a new pup -

Zoe: (...sigh...) Lia - does this "story" get to a point about us?

Lia: Yep. The neighbor of the mom of Aunti Cherie that works with Mommy is Diane from our 4-Legged Friends daycare and she told Aunti Cherie that she knew us - and that we were good girls!!!

Zoe: Diane must be mistaken. We both know: I'm good and you're...ok. Ya...you are ok.

Lia: Yep. So now what?

Zoe: Back to a nap.

Lia: K.

Zoe: (...well...she IS easy!...)

Zoe: Wrong again! This is a project wherein people can buy a book of incredible photos of recues and blind dogs - from the sale of the book money is raised to help those shelters who care for these wonderful animals. AND...one of us lucky rescues might get their pic in a book....cool, eh?

Lia: Ok...are you ready for my lesson?

Zoe: Don't bother me - I'm squirrel hunting. And WHATEVER could YOU teach ME?

Lia: My Sticks-in-the-Snow procedure: Watch:

First - you locate where Mommy left some sticks 'n' stuff in the fall -

they're buried under the snow - and you pluck one out...

Then - carry it to the other side of the yard...because....you can.

When you get to the other side of the yard, put the stick down and survey for thieves.


When you're sure it's all yours, begin the de-twigging process...

And chomp away to your heart's content! TAAAH-DAAAH!!!!

Zoe: ...and...um...that's your lesson for me today?
