30 Days of Warmth Ideas ~ Day No. 11

Zoe: You can prevent body heat loss by wearing a hat and covering ears ~ and if you can pull it down close to your eyes, you're fashionable as in Paris runways and Hollywood glam!

Lia: Oh, brother!

Candy Adams + Zoe Win Photo Album Contest!

Zoe

Congratulations to Dog Art Today reader, Candy Adams, who won my Angels With Fur Photo Album Contest. Candy's name was selected at random from everyone who submitted photos to my new online album. To be honest Candy might have won if it were an actual photography contest. I simply love this sweet close up of her pup, Zoe, whom she described as:

"Feisty, Fearless, believes her 12 pound body is as big as an 80 pound Lab! My little rescue learns so quickly, is my loyal companion and I'm honoured to have her love...AND all of this is wrapped up in FUNNY! She starts my day with a laugh and ends my day with a smile; it doesn't get any better!"

Candy told me she has an interest in learning more about photography, but claimed she just "got lucky" with this terrific Zoe photo. I told her that I don't believe in luck when it comes to composition and having a good eye. I definitely think she should pursue her interest and I think winning this contest is a sign that she is headed in the right direction.
For her prize, Candy chose one of my all time most popular designs, The Striped Dachshund Puppy. It's kind of hard to see on the mug.

Here is the full image available as a print at my Etsy store...

It is also available on t-shirts, baby clothes, pillows, greeting cards, tote bags and ornaments at my CafePress store.

Thank you, everyone who entered. I can't tell you how fun it was to open my email and meet all these fabulous dogs, each one so precious and individual. I also enjoyed getting to know many of you who regularly read my blog who I didn't know by name. Please feel free to share any comments and suggestions with me. I love hearing from you.
P.S. The contest is over, but you can always submit your dog to my Angels With Fur Album. All dogs are welcome.

Protesting Prop 8 Recall...

Zoe: So did you find something to model?

Lia: Did you say a man used to live here?

Zoe: Yeah...they called him Daddy. Why?

Lia: I want to wear a necktie in protest of the recall of Prop 8 - and I'm not taking it off until they re-reverse it.

Zoe: What do you think - do I look yummy in a salmon color?

Lia: Actually - it looks more like the color of shrimp hence it's befitting.

Zoe: Quit talking so smarty-alecky... especially if you didn't find an old man's tie and had to use that dumb thing - you look ridiculous!

Lia: maybe Mommie will buy me a real tie like Ellen wears - but for now, I've made my statement!

Zoe: (...you certainly have and it ain't pretty!!!...)

Lia: Hey, who's THAT?

Zoe: Schaefer. He's a Border pup.

Lia: Who? And is he coming to live with us? I thought we weren't going to have to compete with any other doggies....

Zoe: There's no competing, you big fat lug...he's just a friend on our blog. Compete...what a joke!

A Promise is a Promise - here comes the DOG!

Barack Obama has promised his daughters a new puppy. It will be the latest in a long line of White House pooches.

If you want a friend in Washington,” Harry Truman said, “get a dog.” He was commenting on what a brutal, backbiting, primordial swamp the capital is. But the sentence could just as well be taken to mean: you won't make friends if you don't have a dog.

In his victory speech yesterday, President-elect Barack Obama told his daughters, Malia Ann and Natasha, they had earned a new dog for their support during the campaign.

"Sasha and Malia, I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House," he said.

But this will be no ordinary pooch. During the election campaign, his wife Michelle announced on TV's Entertainment Tonight they would adopt a rescued dog*.

Also - as reported by Reuters:

Obama’s running mate, Joe Biden, is also getting in on the act. He told reporters traveling with him earlier that his wife had promised him a “big dog” if he got elected.

...(big dog):

********
Jill Biden had taped pictures of different dogs on the back of the seat in front of him on his campaign plane to inspire the candidate as he criss-crossed the country in the final sprint to Election Day.

“Jill had said the only way you are getting a dog is if you are president … we didn’t think about vice president,” said Biden. “She said at least if you live in the White House you are home.”
He dropped out of the presidential race but when Obama asked him to join the ticket, his wife Jill said if he did so she would let him have the dog he wanted.

The Obamas join a long tradition of first families with dogs. Here is an excellent website dedicated to American Presidents and their dogs. Did you know George Washington had 10 hounds; Mopsey, Taster, Cloe, Tipler, Forester, Captain, Lady Rover, Vulcan, Sweetlips and Searcher.
